botanical art. A painting is only as good as the drawing beneath. In this
introduction to botanical drawing taught by Talbot County artist Lee D’Zm
ura\, participants will learn the skills and techniques necessary to captu
re the essence of flowers\, fruits\, pods\, and leaves. Form\, scale\, dep
th\, and perspective will be emphasized in this graphite workshop. Each st
udent will produce a detailed botanical study in pencil.\n\nLee is an awar
d-winning botanical artist whose experience as a landscape architect enric
hes her watercolors. With a focus on historic landscape preservation\, her
professional projects include the Jefferson Memorial and Dumbarton Oaks i
n Washington\, DC\, and Ann-Marie Sculpture Garden in Solomons\, MD. The
transition from landscape documentation and design to botanical painting w
as a natural extension of her knowledge and love of plants. Her watercolor
s are an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of the individual spec
imen with botanical accuracy. The fine detail in her paintings is in part
the result of years of technical drawing.\n\nThis five-session program
meets Thursdays\, January 23 to February 20.\n\nFee: $115 members\,
